One of my favorite trends is the statement necklace. It's such a great way to add personality to any outfit. You can wear something as basic as a plain white t-shirt and jeans or a LBD, throw on a statement necklace and you've got an outfit. You can find statement necklaces at any price point. TJMaxx, eBay, reddressboutique.com, Funky Trunk Vintage, JCPenny and Loft are some of my favorite places to find great statement pieces at affordable prices. When Marion of Marionberry Style announced this month's Trend of the Month Challenge would be styling a statement necklace my biggest dilemma was choosing which necklace from my ever growing collection to feature! I decided to go with one of my very first statement necklaces which I found at JCPenny a few years ago. The three different metals and adjustable length make it easy to wear with anything and the rows of flowers and crystals make quite a statement! Have you tried the statement necklace trend? How do you style yours?
Today I'm linking up with Marionberry Style for The Trend of the Month Challenge and the Pleated Poppy!

Tent Sale
This past Saturday one of the boutiques here in town was hosting a summer clearance tent sale with promises of up to 90% off. This boutique is one of my girl's go-to places for budget friendly and super cute dresses, tops, jeans, shoes and accessories. I've found some great tops and skirts there in the past as well so my youngest, her best friend and I decided to give the tent sale a try (my oldest stayed home ~ crowds and chaos are not her thing!). I'd never been to a tent sale so I wasn't sure what to expect. We waited for a parking spot for quite a while but once we found one we joined the masses of girl's digging through packed racks and overflowing boxes of dresses, shorts, scarves, tops, jeans, jackets, shoes and skirts. Shoppers were grabbing anything they could get their hands on and then getting in the checkout line (which wrapped around the entire parking lot) and trying on their picks as they waited. There were no dressing rooms, no organization (by the time we got there), no credit cards, no tax but a ton of deals - if you were up to the digging! I wasn't prepared for "cash only" so I had to keep my purchases to what I had in my wallet ($35). After about 45 minutes of searching, digging and waiting in line I left with four items I am really happy with. A eggplant colored sequined tunic, a cute grey tunic tank, a wool tweed cropped Chanel inspired jacket (hurry fall!!) and black sequined shorts ~ all for the bargain price of $34! My youngest walked away with quite a haul (she's tall and thin so she doesn't have to try everything on like I do) and her best friend got several cute items too. Once we left I found myself wishing I'd not passed up a few of the pieces I left behind, a raspberry coat and a tan tuxedo jacket, but when the next tent sale rolls around I'll be a little better prepared!
When I get something new I have to wear it right away so I styled my new sequin shorts that same afternoon for a casual day of running errands (seen in Monday's post) http://mzsavvystyle.blogspot.com/2012/08/sequin-shorts-never-say-never.html and the sequin tunic for a day at the office (this post). I'm dying to wear my new jacket ~ fall weather can't get here fast enough!
Have you ever been to a tent sale? Did you think the deals were worth the effort? Today I'm linking up with Real Girl Glam for Real Girl Style!

Sequin Shorts ~ Never Say Never
I started off the summer talking about how I never wear shorts and I'm ending the summer not just wearing shorts but wearing sequin shorts ~ for day! What caused this change of heart (or change of wardrobe)? Possibly it's the extreme heat we've had this summer or the fact that I've been able to find shorts I actually like and feel good in or that I decided to just embrace my 40+ year old legs (after all, I do spend hours a week at the gym and running ~ why cover up all that hard work?) They always say, "Never say never", and they were right!
Now about these sequin shorts...
I bought them in the morning at a tent sale a local boutique was having and wore them that afternoon. I'd been eyeing them for a while and when they had them at 90% off and in my size I knew it was meant to be! I was anxious to wear them, had some Mother of the Bride errands to run, so I tossed them on with an oversize men's t-shirt and zebra skimmers to play down their dressiness and set out for my day of errands. I wish the pictures showed the sequin detail of the shorts. I'm looking forward to styling these shorts for a night out with a blazer, tank and heals. How would you style them?

Trends
This outfit represents several different popular trends ~ polka dots, colored skinny pants, animal print, pointy toed pumps (hot for fall) and pattern mixing! It just kind of happened when I was getting dressed this morning and I'm glad it did! You have seen this top a few times now and I'm sure it won't be the last time! I keep reaching for it over and over again.
My photographer today was my nineteen year old son. He came home from class (he's in college) just as I was looking for someone to take my pictures. He was a really good sport about it and even managed to get his shoe in the "shoes shot"! Some of the pics I didn't post were pretty funny - he keep shooting as I was talking, directing and adjusting. I got a good laugh as I was sorting thru them for the blog.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a savvy and stylish day!

The Weekend Uniform
I pulled these pictures from my archives because with all the busyness lately I haven't been able to get pictures every day. When I have a "good week" I try to get as many outfit pictures I can so when weeks like this happen I've got things to pull from ~ hence these pictures! Can you tell what week this summer these were taken? The nails kind of give it away!
An easy but put together look is shorts and a button down. Throw on a statement necklace (or a scarf) and some great shoes and you have an outfit! When the temps get cooler I trade in the short sleeve shirt and shorts for a long sleeve button down and skinny jeans. There you have it ~ the weekend uniform (well, one of them!).
Hope your week is off to a savvy and stylish start! I'm linking up with Real Girl Glam for Real Girl Style!

Go Team!
Happy Monday! I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! Mine was spent chaperoning my youngest daughter's kick-off-the-season volleyball tournament. It's her senior year so I'm trying not to miss a thing! I wanted to wear something that showed my team spirit. I'm not one to wear a jersey or school t-shirt so I put together an outfit that had all the school colors but was still savvy and stylish. White boyfriend skinnies, navy tie-front jersey top, yellow bubble necklace and gold wedges were perfect for a long day of cheering on my baby girl and her teammates! (The tournament lasted two days but I didn't get a chance to get pictures of day two's outfit of jeans, white T, yellow and white checked scarf and nude flats.)
Hope you all have a savvy and stylish start to your week! Today, as I do every Monday, I'm linking up with fabulous fashionistas of Monday Mingle!

Basic Go-To
Do you ever have a day (or days) that figuring out what to wear is a chore? You just stare into your closet completely uninspired waiting for something to jump out and say "wear me"! I know I sure do and today was one of those days. For fashionly uninspired days (or days I'm in a hurry) I have go-to outfits, outfits that are comfortable, easy to put on, and don't take a whole lot of thought. They also need to be outfits that I feel good in. When you are fashionly uninspired you certainly don't want to feel uncomfortable or uncute! This black maxi skirt/ivory blouse combo is one of my go-to's. It's a good basic foundation to build on. I can change it up with different accessories like necklaces, scarves, belts, bags and shoes.
What are your basic, no brainer, go-to outfits? Do you have more than one?

Indigo
Sorry about the lack of posts last week! I had a feeling once I was back at the day job it would get harder to find time (or people) to take pics and blog! I will (hopefully) adjust and be able to get more than two posts a week done! Thanks for hanging with me!
As I've mentioned before, my oldest daughter is getting married in January and we are in the middle of planning her wedding. Lots of details, big and small, to take care of! We spent the week before I headed back to work trying to get some of the major stuff checked off the very long wedding to-do list. One thing we are absolutely thrilled about is finding the reception venue! We are having it at The Hotel Indigo in Athens and we couldn't have asked for a better location! We get to use the entire lower level of the hotel, The Rialto Club. There is a welcoming area, a rotunda, a lounge and a huge room for dining and dancing. It's exactly what we have been looking for! Now on to the caterer, flowers, cake...
You've seen all the pieces of this outfit before, just mixed with different things. When you live on a tight budget you learn to be a mix-master! I once went an entire school year wearing a different outfit everyday by just mixing what I had in different ways and tossing in a few new things. I think coming up with new outfits is a creative outlet for me!
I have a feeling you will be seeing a lot of this necklace ~ it's quickly becoming one if my favorites. I love it so much I just ordered it in black! (Thank's Red Dress Boutique for getting the necklace in other colors!)
I'm off to work. I hope you all have a savvy and stylish Monday! (As always, I'm linking up with the fabulous fashionistas of Monday Mingle!)

Exactly the Same ~ Just a Little Bit Different
"Exactly the same ~ just a little bit different" is a favorite saying around our house. One of my husband's coaches in college used this saying all the time and it's just one of those things that stuck with us. My husband even used it in our oldest kid's graduation talks. So when I was trying to come up with a title for today's blog post it's the first thing that came to mind because my outfit is "exactly the same ~ just a little bit different". The same in that I have worn every piece here in a previous post but different in that I've not worn them together in a post. Get the idea? :)
This crochet tank is one of my favorite finds of this summer. There is nothing about it I'd change and would probably wear it once or twice a week if I wasn't a fashion blogger and expected to come up with different outfits every day! These jeans are my fav's as far as fit. I wish I could find them exactly like this in a darker wash (see, there it is again, exactly the same ~ just a little bit different!) because I feel like these are a little more limited with the wash and distressing. These wedges are my go-to's this summer for sure and a purchase I'm glad I made back in early June!
Do you take different items in your closet and rework them to come up with a new look or are you a this-is-my-outfit-and-I'm-sticking-to-it kind of girl?
I'm linking up with Real Girl Glam for Real Girl Style, Rolled Up Pretty and The Pleated Poppy!
I hope you all have a fabulous, savvy and stylish day!
