Leopard and Zebra and White Denim, Oh My!

As I've stated many times before and proven through my blog, I love animal print. It's a love that runs so deep it's become an obsession. My house would be covered in it if my husband would allow it, but he won't, so instead I just cover my self in it ~ almost daily. I've gotten to a point where my outfit doesn't seem quite complete without animal print somewhere. It's a problem. Is there a group I can join? APA ~ Animal Print anonymous? :)

Seriously, I do love animal print and decided to try mixing my two favorite prints in one outfit. I think it works. The bolder shoe and the more subtle cami worn far enough apart to complement and not compete. I've had all of these pieces forever, just mixed them in a different way. I'm not sure about these jeans. They have an equestrian look to them and I think they cut me a little funny. If only I were taller...

I may be kind of quiet on the blog front over the next few days. I'm heading out of town to take care of my sister and her baby. She (my sister) fell over the weekend and broke her foot pretty severely. So instead of blogging I'll be snuggling an adorable nine month old!

Today I'm linking up with Marion Berry Style for the Trend of the Month Challenge and with the Pleated Poppy! Have a savvy and stylish rest of your week!

Oxblood and Leopard

I'm not sure if I like the name "oxblood" but I sure do like the color! I don't own much in oxblood yet (yet...), just a cardigan and a skirt, but it's one of the fall trends I'm really looking forward to embracing fully! I've already got my eye on an oxblood bomber jacket, coated jeans and knee-high boots. Oxblood looks good with so much, it's really to be treated as a neutral. Grey, black, camel, navy, cream, hunter, gold and of course, zebra and leopard, all look amazing with the rich wine/burgandy color.

Now, let me just brag on these Jessica Simpson jeggins a second. I bought them last week at my favorite store, TJMaxx, for under $20 and I loved them so much after I spent a very long, comfortable day in them, that I ran back to TJMaxx the next day and bought another "back up" pair. Let's put it this way ~ you're going to see a lot of these jeggins! I'm considering doing a whole blog series on "30 ways to style black jeggins". That way I can wear them everyday for a whole month and no one will look at me strange. I'll just explain it's part of my job. I'm doing research. One thing's for certain, I can't wait to wear them with riding boots and a chunky sweater!

In Transition

My closet is in transition from spring/summer to fall/winter. In other words, it's a mess! I haven't had time to switch out seasons so it's a mishmash of all seasons piled on top of each other. It's slightly embarrassing because my side business is closet editing and wardrobe consulting and yet my closet/wardrobe are a disaster. Part of my hesitation to tackle my closet is the weather. One day it's in the 80's and the next it's in the 70's. I know if I put my warm weather stuff away we'll have a heatwave and I'll be wishing I'd waited. So, here I am, digging thru my untransitioned closet, coming up with it's-still-hot-but-fall-starts-Saturday outfits.

I'm so happy the colored jean trend is not going away anytime soon. I was at the mall the other day and just about every store had displays with colored jeans and pants. I actually bought a mint pair (number 4 on my "need to get list") while I was there. Next additions to my colored jeans wardrobe will hopefully be oxblood and hunter. These yellow jeans have been well worn the past two seasons and I'm not going to put them away yet. I think they will work great with darker fall colors and chunky knits. Pairing them with this grey camp shirt and zebra belt de-summerizes them perfectly.

How about you? Have you made the seasonal wardrobe switch yet or are you stuck in the middle like I am? Are you still enjoying the colored jeans trend? If so, what colors are you craving for fall? Today I'm linking up with The Pleated Poppy and Rolled Up Pretty.

Hello Sunshine

This outfit makes me think of sunshine, I guess because orange and yellow are the colors of the sun (at least when I draw a sun it's always orange and yellow). These pants were on clearance at TJMaxx and you can't get much better than TJMaxx clearance! . They were a whopping $7 ~ for Calvin Klein pants ~ happy, sunshiney, orange, cropped pants. This yellow top is a closet staple. I own the same one in a few different colors because you can do so much with it. It's great alone when the weather is warm but when it gets chilly (hopefully soon!!) it will be perfect under a jacket or cardi. The leopard belt and skimmers are the neutral in the outfit but a "pop" at the same time ~ they're working double duty. And my hair...well, I was having a really bad hair day that even a ponytail couldn't rescue! It's ok ~ happens to the best of us! ;-)

My September Birchbox arrived today! It's packed full of really fun stuff that I'm looking forward to trying out. I still owe you a review on August's box so I'll have to do a two in one review soon! Today I'm linking up with Real Girl Glam for Real Girl Style. Hope you all have a savvy and stylish day!  http://www.realgirlglam.com/?cat=993

Red and Black

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! On Saturday we went to the UGA (University of Georgia) football game. We live in Athens (where UGA is located), my husband is an alumni and our kids were born here, so game day Saturday's are a way of life for my family. The team colors are red and black (so thankful they aren't purple and gold or some ugly shade of orange!) and I have to say there is a lot of red and black clothing in this house! I think 90% of my son's wardrobe is red and black. My girl's think the whole reason for tailgating and going to the football game is to dress cute! I have to agree that part of the fun for us girl's is coming up with a great red and black outfit and seeing what everyone else is wearing once we get there.

Every Georgia girl needs a pair of red jeans ~ they're a staple I this town! When the stores here get them in they usually sell out pretty quickly. I found this top at TJMaxx. I'm not crazy about the style, it kind of reminds me of a maternity top, so I may need to do some re-styling of it before I wear it again. These zebra skimmers are quickly becoming my go-to shoes, especially since pattern mixing is a trend. I throw them on with almost anything. I'm loving this cute little cross body bag by Steve Madden. It's just big enough to carry all the essentials but small enough to not be heavy or get in the way. And I love the extra front pocket, chain strap and patent leather.

I hope you all have a savvy and stylish start to your week! Today I'm linking up with Visible Monday's and the ladies of Monday Mingle!

Leopard Is My Favorite Color

If you know me at all you know of my love for animal prints ~ zebra, cheetah, leopard... I love them all. I'd have to say out of all the animal prints leopard is my favorite, so much so that when someone asks me what my favorite color is I say, "leopard"! I love leopard in clothing pieces but my favorite way to wear leopard is in accessories. Wear any old jeans and top, toss on some leopard shoes or belt and you instantly kick the style factor up a notch! I treat animal prints as a neutral and love to pair them with jewel tones such as emerald, ruby, sapphire and amethyst. Anything that would go with a neutral will go with animal print.

I found these jeans at a consignment shop and I almost didn't buy them. I thought maybe they were a little too much leopard print for my age and size but I went ahead and tried them on and once I did I knew they needed to be in my wardrobe! They are insanely comfortable! So soft and stretchy. Right away I knew I needed to wear them with this emerald green top. I think the combo works.

What do you think about animal print? Do you love it from afar or wear it almost daily in some way like I do?

I want to thank my fabulous friend, Megan of Frugalista Diaries, for inviting me to join her for 5 Ways To Wear (or 5WTW)! Check out how the other ladies are wearing their animal print! http://www.tfdiaries.com/2012/09/5-ways-to-wear-animal-print-blogger.html

Back to School

Today is September 11th. It's a day I spend remembering where I was and where my family was when we heard the news of the horrific attacks on our beloved country. It's the day that changed our country forever. I will always remember and never forget.

When Everybody, Everywear announced the challenge for September was "Back to School Fashion" I was pretty excited because my day job is at a school so dressing for school is what I do everyday! I work at a very conservative school so I have to be careful to not to get too over-the-top with my outfits. I do a lot with color and accessories to give my outfits personality but still be appropriate for my specific workplace. My desire is to someday work in a more creative environment where my outfits can be more fun and "fashiony" but for now color, animal prints and accessories are this fashionistas best friends!

August in Review

It's already September 12th and I realized I never did my August in Review post ~ so here it is! In August I tried some new trends (pattern mixing and sequined shorts), wore some old favorites (white denim, statement necklaces and maxi skirts) and tried to stay cool in the extreme heat!!

I'm hoping September will bring cooler temps, fall trends and some savvy and stylish outfits! Today I'm linking up with Rolled Up Pretty and the Pleated Poppy! http://thepleatedpoppy.com/blog/
