When In Doubt a LBJ Is Always Right

Two closet staples every women should own are a LBD (little black dress) and a LBJ (little black jumpsuit).  I've been reaching for my LBJ a lot more than my LBD as of late.  It seems like it's perfect for just about every occasion.  Recently I attended a TIBI fashion show hosted by one of Athens' premier boutiques, Heery's Clothes Closet, and was a bit stumped about what to wear (sadly, I don't (yet) own anything by TIBI) so I reached for my favorite LBJ, leopard pumps (also a closet staple), my latest necklace obsession and of course, a red lip!

~ What I'm Wearing ~
Black Jumpsuit: Shoe Dazzle (sold out) | This one and this one are both on my fall/winter "to get" list (because I need more LBJ's)!
Leopard Pumps: Nine West
Neck Party: The Freya Fringe Necklace layered with the Mixed Metal Sutton Necklace both from Stella & Dot
Red Lip: L'Oreal
Nails: Big Apple Red by OPI

Are you a LBD or a LBJ girl, or both?

Fighting the Gloom

Y'all, it's been gloomy here in Georgia for the past week.  There has been a constant misty drizzle a la Seattle with a little break only to mist and drizzle some more.  I decided to fight the gloom with an outfit of pastels and white.  Yes, both are okay after Labor Day, just keep the linens and gauzy fabrics in the warmer months, but by all means wear your white denim and chunky pastels knits on into winter!

~ What I'm Wearing ~

White, Distressed Denim: American Eagle (sold out) | Similar
Pastel Blue Sweater: I got this sweater last year from my old online favorite, Piperlime and sadly, they are no longer with us.  I love the v-neck and shirt-tail hem on this one from Gap.
Bag: Rebecca Minkoff
Pastel Floral Pumps: Forever 21 (old) | Similar
Necklace: Stella & Dot
Bracelets: Stella & Dot

Are you a pastel and white after Labor Day girl?

The Start of Fall and Fabulous Bags

Happy Fall, Y'all!!  The official start of fall is finally here and the temps actually cooperated enough for me to wear some layers (and even flannel) to celebrate my favorite season!  With the change of seasons also comes a change in my bags.  My usual summer day bag this straw Tory Burch tote that I've carried every summer for the past several years.  I love it but I'm ready to swap it up once Labor Day rolls around.  I began my fall bag search a month or so ago and I fell in love with Vera Bradley's entire new line of totescross body'ssatchelsbackpacksshoulder bags and clutches.  They are all so fabulous it was hard to choose which would be my go-to bag for fall.  I was torn between this navy and black bowler satchel and this cheetah calf hair beauty and then I came across this denim and quilted leather satchel and knew it was the one.  Dress it up, dress it down, work day or date night, it's the perfect bag for me!

One of My Favorites of the Summer

I'm wrapping up the final bit of summer (the last official day is a week from today, September 22nd) in my next three blog posts with a few of my favorite not-blogged-yet summer outfits.  Today's outfit tops my list of Summer 2015 favorites!  It' a little lacy-feminine, a little boho-cool and 100% from The Loft Boutique.  If you follow me on Instagram, which you should ;-), you got a sneak peek here earlier in the summer.  This may be a summer outfit but a few of the pieces are hot trends for fall ~ can you guess what they are?

Rompin

Rompers and jumpsuits are the best thing since Betty White if you ask me!  Honestly, I'm slightly obsessed.  Once piece dressing is just so easy!  Toss it on, add some accessories and you're done.  The only drawback is getting (almost) completely undressed when you have to use the restroom, but to me the benefits of comfort and ease balance out the inconvenience of a bathroom break.

Savvy Style Tip: Rompers can look too "little girl" if they have ruffles, lace and cut in hems on the shorts.  To make a romper age appropriate keep the style and detail simple and classic.

~ What I'm Wearing ~

Romper: Entourage Boutique | The one I'm wearing is sold out but they have the same style in taupe with navy embroidery Here.
Straw Fedora: Target
Sunnies: Similar
Chandeliers: Stella & Dot
Necklace: Stella & Dot | I'm wearing the top piece to the Rebel Cluster.
Bangle: Stella & Dot

How do you feel about the romper/jumpsuit trend?

My Swimsuit Story

Here's a little tidbit about me, I've always been an avid exerciser but I've also always struggled with my weight.  I've been every size from a 00 to a 12.  Seriously.  Many summers I've been in good enough shape to wear bikini while at the beach or pool.  But there have been some years, like after babies and after my daughter's long hospital stay where I lived on cafeteria food and cupcakes, that I've had to switch to a one-piece or tankini to spare everyone from the sight of my, um, not-so-toned midsection.  Last summer I reaped the rewards of a year of really hard work and a strict diet and was able to bring a wardrobe of bikini's with me to the beach.  Well, this summer rolled around and after a long year of a lot of stress, I've gained fifteen pounds and the bikini's were staying home.  It used to be that stress caused me to loose weight but once I reached 40 it has done the opposite.  The over 40 weight struggle is real, friends!  One of my dear friends described trying to keep your weight down after 45 like trying to keep a beach ball under the water.  The minute you force it down it pops right back up again!  Ugh! So I had to go dreaded swimsuit shopping before our family beach vacation.  Fortunately there are a lot of really cute tankini's and one piece swimsuits out there.  There are also cute cover-ups for the beach/pool days you're wanting to just sit under the umbrella and read a good book.

I love mixing patterns, even with my swimsuits!
Striped Halter Tankini Top: Target
Polka-dot Bikini Bottoms: Target
Kimono With Fringe: The Loft Boutique (sold out) Similar
Beach Read: Judy Blume
Sunnies: Quay Australia
Fedora: Target

Scarves make great cover-ups!  I'll do a tutorial soon.
Tankini Top: Victoria's Secret
Bikini Bottoms: Victoria's Secret
Large Scarf: Stella & Dot
Floppy Hat: Natural Paper Company
Sunnies: T.J.Maxx (These are similar and at the top of my wish list!)

I love a white swimsuit, especially after spending a few days in the sun.  I decided the tie-dyed bottoms, instead of white, added some interest.
Tankini Top: Victoria's Secret
Bottoms: T.J.Maxx ~ These were from one of last year's bikini's and still fit so I decided to get a tankini top to go with them.  Here's a similar option.
Flip Flops: Michael Kors
Hat: The Natural Paper Company
Sunnies: Similar
Beach Read: Judy Blume c/o PopSugar Must Have Box

I opted for a new all red tankini because I was hoping for the BayWatch effect ala Pamela Anderson.  It didn't work... ;-)
Tankini Top: Target
Tankini Bottoms: Target
Flip Flops: Michael Kors
Tie-dyed Tunic Top Used as a Cover-up: Entourage
Beach Read: Sophie Kinsella
Sunnies: Quay Australia

What's your swimsuit story?

Summer Whites and a Savvy Style Tip

White and summer go together like Simon & GarfunkelSonny & Cher, and Donny & Marie ~ they blend together in complete harmony.  I'm loving these easy white pieces from Old Navy.  The shorts are a linen-blend, pull-on style with a drawstring waist and are the perfect length ~ not too short, not too long.  I love the oversize, boyfriend style of my button-down.  I have a confession ~ I have worn a button-down just about every day this summer.  They are so easy to wear.  They look good with shorts, leggings (if the shirt is oversize like this one) or jeans.  They also look great tied at the waist with a skirt or over a maxi dress.

Savvy Style Tip: Don't have a button-down in your closet?  Every girl should have a few.  Start with a good white button-down and then as your budget allows add a stripe, print and/or another color or two.  You can wear them year round and they are a classic that will never go out of style.

~ What I'm Wearing ~
Button-Down: Old Navy early summer so it's sold out online.  Here's a classic white poplin button-down that every girl needs in her closet and at $22 you could get it in more than one color.
Drawstring Shorts: Old Navy
Floppy Hat: Similar
Kaia Earrings: Stella & Dot (they can be worn as chandelier's or studs)
Gold Crescent Necklace: Stella & Dot (it can be worn two ways and in several lengths)
Cady Wrap Bracelet: Stella & Dot
Arrow Bracelet: Stella & Dot
White Layering Cami: Old Navy (another wardrobe staple that every girl should have a few of)

Are you a fan of button-downs and white on white?  You can't go wrong with either one!
