Trying to Beat the Heat - Already

It was HOT in Georgia this weekend with record highs today. It's hard to feel savvy and stylish when you're literally melting! As you can tell in these pics (that were taken at the end of this long, hot day) my makeup was completely gone. Even though the temps are rising a tank top and shorts just won't work for the day job so I chose an easy, breezy top and a pencil skirt to help beat the heat but still look work appropriate. I love this top, I love it so much I bought it in three colors! I wore it over the weekend untucked with cropped, colored skinny jeans and decided to try it with a pencil skirt today. The top looks better half tucked with the skirt because it's long. For some reason the colors of the top and skirt didn't show up true in these pictures. Both pieces are much brighter. Some day I will finally figure out this iPhone picture taking thing!

Have a savvy and stylish week!

Wedges Are My Favorite

I've realized something after going back through my spring blog pictures ~ I wear a lot of wedges! Wedges are definitely my favorite spring/summer shoe. They look great with everything from pants to shorts, dresses to skirts. Wedges are high enough to make you look a little more "dressed up" than a flat shoe or sandal but are comfy enough to wear every day all day (which I tend to do!).

Here are some of my favorites from my wedge collection (yes, I have a collection! Some people collect art, I collect shoes!) :)

Have a savvy and stylish week!

Chevron Print Maxi

The weather here in Georgia has been crazy! In one week's time it was in the 80's and the 30's! Lots of layering taking place in my daily outfit choices.

I brought this outfit on a trip to visit my family for Easter weekend. It packs well because of the jersey fabric of the skirt and tank. It can be dressed up or down to suit the many occasions that can come up in one weekend. I wore this to a concert, a memorial service and out to lunch in the span of one week. I wore this same outfit without the sweater a few days before these pics were taken but by the time Saturday rolled around the temps had dropped and I was glad I had thrown the cardi in my suitcase! The cardi is long and was overwhelming with the maxi skirt so I tied it at the waist. I feel maxi's look better on me grounded with a chunky wedge heel instead of flats.

I hope you have a savvy and stylish week! Thanks for reading!

Favorite Things - Spring Break Staycation

Here are a few of my favorite things from the first half of my spring break "staycation":

I finally read "The Help". What a well written and truly great book! I couldn't put it down. I became so attached to the characters that when I finished the book I was really sad to see them go! Now I need to see the movie!

My Easter pedicure and lime green thongs. It's always nice having a fresh pedi! I went with bright pink this go around.

Watching my bff's son (who also happens to be my youngest daughter's "friend") play baseball on tv! How exciting to watch him play for Army and see his dream come true! Later in the week he was named "Patriot League Player if the Week" for the second time this season!

My new spring bag. This is not what I had in mind when I went looking, I wanted something brighter (green or pink) and bigger but I saw this bag and instantly loved it! The gold studded detail, the chain strap and the neutral color will serve me well this season. I just have to adjust to carrying a smaller bag!

The Braves game at the Gwinnett Braves stadium. I'm a baseball fan, can you tell? It's my son's sport. He's been playing since he was four. Sadly he's injured right now and can't play. We are hoping he'll be back for the last half of his senior season. Because of him and his love of the game I've grown to love it too. Of course I'd rather be watching him play but the Braves are alright! :)

My owl necklace. This thing just makes me smile and I find myself reaching for it time and time again!

My Easter shoes. I'm slightly obsessed with wedges this season just like last spring. The bright red patent leather straps and the rattan wedge is totally on trend. These shoes will be getting a lot of playtime this season! (baseball turned fashion lingo! :)

What are some of your favorite things from the week?

Product Review: Pretty Nails Made Easy

When I discover a deal or something that makes my life a little easier I hate to keep it to myself! I love to share my discovery with my friends in hopes they too will benefit from it.

My most recent find is Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Fast Dry Nail Color. For YEARS I was a nail salon-aholic. I had acrylic nails and was a slave to having them filled in every two weeks. If I'd let them go longer they started to look awful which, in my book, defeats the purpose of having "done" nails! About a year and a half ago I just got tired of it, tired of being a slave to the nail salon, so I went thru the process of taking the acrylics off and growing out healthy nails. It took a while but I really started to enjoy having my own nails again. I've worn my nails super short (finger tip length) for years, even with the acrylics, so it became much easier to keep them short on my own. The one major issue I had was keeping them polished! I'd spend an evening polishing my nails and then waiting for them to dry for what seemed like hours only for them to start to chip in three to four days. Frustrating to the point that I stopped polishing them all together and this was not my original plan. I wanted short, natural, perfectly polished nails at all times (don't we all?!?). Well, I found the answer to my nail polish woes ~ Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. My daughter had gotten a bottle of it from a friend and had left it on the kitchen counter. The orangey-red color caught my attention. I read the directions and it seemed too good to be true - a coat of polish completely dry in 60 seconds?! I had to give it a try. The polish brush is flat and rounded so it is super easy to paint a nail in three strokes. I put on two coats even though it called for only one because I wanted to color to be a little bolder. The two coats of polish were completely dry in less than five minutes! I even went on to immediately make dinner with no smudges or dings! The polish stayed chip free for five days - not bad for a five minute manicure! When it started to chip I simply took it off with polish remover, washed and dried my hands and applied new polish. A fresh manicure in 5-10 minutes! I loved the result so much I made a trip to the drugstore to pick up a few more shades. Each bottle is under $5.00. My new favorite color is "Vigorous Violet", a really fun purple color that reminds me of Easter eggs, that I've been wearing it all week. I think I have found the answer to my nail polish dilemma ~ a savvy and stylish one at that!

Pictures From the Past (sort of)

I've been on kind of a mini "staycation" the past few days. It's spring break for my day job and I decided to take a few days to do some things I enjoy ~ spending time with my BFF, finishing a book I've been reading, getting an Easter pedi, working out later in the morning instead of at 5:30am, browsing in my favorite stores instead of rushing through and getting some extra sleep ~ just little things that are relaxing and a treat!

These photos are some I found in my photo stream that, for some reason, I never did a blog on. I think they must have gotten lost among a rare week of lots-of-outfit-post-picture-taking. Since both of my photographers are off together (code for my youngest daughter is visiting my oldest daughter at college) and I have no way of taking any new ones at this moment, I decided now would be a great time to use them!

This outfit is an easy work look. I half tucked the tunic style top and belted the pants since both are on the loose side and I'd look like a blob if I didn't! Ha! I thought the red belt, cuff and black and white leopard scarf added an extra pop that this otherwise bland outfit needed. And of course my favorite accessory? A vanilla chi tea in a bright orange Jittery Joe's cup!

Hope the rest of your week is savvy and stylish!
