Easter Dressing and Blogger Closet Buying

Sorry for the silence last week.  I came down with something on Tuesday and blogging just wasn't happening for the rest of the week!  I was finally feeling a bit better yesterday and was able to join my family for Easter Sunday services and lunch at my in-laws.  Problem was because I had been feeling so bad all week I had not planned on what I was going to wear, which is not like me at all, especially for Easter!  Fortunately I had done a little shopping at a bloggers closet sale that a few of my fellow Southern Blog Society bloggers hosted the prior week at the W Hotel Buckhead and had a few new things I could choose from.  If you ever have a chance to shop a bloggers closet sale you should!  I got great, super stylish, barely worn (if worn at all) clothing and shoes and spent less than a quarter of what I would have retail.

What I'm Wearing ~
Top: MM Couture (similar here)
Skirt: Fab'rik (almost identical here and all black version here)
Cage Sandals (Are you tired of seeing these yet? I'm obsessed!): BCBGeneration via TJMaxx (loving these, obsessed with this open back pair and this pair is almost identical to what I'm wearing)
Clutch: Loft (OOOOOLLLLDDD!! but I found a few cute options here and here)

Last Thursday night I hosted a Sip & Shop at my favorite Athens boutique, Encore.  I've been talking about and doing outfit posts from Encore for the past few weeks (if you missed the posts and some really fabulous outfits you can see them herehereherehere and here).  The Sip & Shop was the perfect way to celebrate a very successful collaboration!  We had an amazing sweets and sips table by Lisa Formaro (it was so beautiful it stopped people in their tracks!), giveaways every hour (and some very happy winners!), a 20% discount for all attendees, and personal styling by me!  We had a great turn out with everyone from friends, family, fellow bloggers, blog readers, Athens locals, regular Encore shoppers and people shopping Encore for the first time.  The night was such a success that Nikki (the fabulous owner of Encore) and I are already planning our next event!!  Stay tuned ~ you don't want to miss it!

Mz Savvy Style Loves Athens ~ Encore ~ Seeing Red

I love color ~ green, purple, pink, turquoise, red...  So when I saw this gorgeous shirt in the perfect shade of red while shopping at Encore I knew I had to style it! This faux wrap shirt looks amazing with these full-cut dress shorts but it would also look great with skinny jeans, a skirt or white pants.  The question I ask myself when I want to buy something is, "how many ways can I wear this piece?" If the answer is three or more then I get it, which makes this shirt a definite yes!  Nude heels elongate the leg, which is what you want when you are wearing dress shorts, and are the perfect on-trend summer sandal.  The turquoise jewelry really pops against the rich red of the shirt.  Red and turquoise is such a fun spring/summer color combo, don't you think?

What I'm Wearing ~
Red Faux Wrap Shirt: Line & Dot via Encore (Similar here and here)
Shorts: Line & Dot via Encore (These from Tory Burch are cute, more casual option)
Sandals: Sam Edelman via Encore (Loving this version with thinner ankle straps and these in snake print)
Bag, Necklaces & Bangles: Encore

Mz Savvy Style Loves Athens ~ Encore ~ Palazzo Pants

Palazzo pants made an appearance last spring/summer and they are back even better and brighter this year.  Palazzo pants are fun to wear, you kind of feel like you are wearing your pajamas in public and getting away with it!  I went to an event at Trina Turk a few weeks ago hosted by my blogger friend, Nikka Shae, of Oh Nikka, and palazzo pants and floral shorts were on every rack which made me crave some of my own.  I was really excited when I went to Encore for my styling day and found several pair of palazzo's in the store.  It was hard to choose which to go with but I love the bright boho pattern of these.  Palazzo pants look great with a tight crop-top, and if I was about 10 years younger or really daring I'd try one, but I'm neither so I went with a slightly longer and fuller cut version of a crop-top.  I wasn't sure if something with volume on top would work with something with volume on the bottom until I tired it but the the shorter line of the top ended up balancing out the long, flowey pants well.  I choose two matching leather and suede cuffs worn on each wrist and boho inspired earrings to complete the look.  I'm also wearing VERY high heels but the pants are so long you just can't see them!  If these pants belonged to me I'd have them hemmed so they didn't drag but just skimmed the floor.  Wedges are a great footwear choice to go with palazzo pants.  I was styling and not purchasing the day I wore this outfit but I think it's one I'll go back and get this week at my Sip and Shop Event!  It's just too spring-perfect not to!

What I'm Wearing ~
Palazzo Pants: Flying Tomato via Encore (similar here and here)
Top: A+ Ellen via Encore (similar here)
Cuffs & Earrings: Encore
Bag: BCBGeneration via Encore

How To Style ~ Bootcut Jeans

If you are lucky enough to work in an office/workplace that allows denim, bootcut jeans are the perfect at-work jean.  They are stylish (even though they have taken a backseat to skinny jeans and boyfriend jeans over the past few years), universally flattering and are easy to dress up.  As with any pant, fit, length and condition will dictate if your jeans are work appropriate.

First let's talk about fit ~ any garment that is too tight will make you look larger, like you are stuffing yourself into something that used to fit once upon a time but doesn't any longer.  A garment that is too large will also make you look larger.  The key to finding the perfect jean is going out and trying them on...lots of them...until you find the one that fits you just right.  When I'm working with a client I pull several sizes and styles for them and we try them all until we hit the jackpot!  Sometimes this takes several stores and brands so be patient.  Don't jean shop when you are in a hurry!  I went jean shopping the other day and must have tried on 10-15 pair before I found the ONE pair that came home with me (and I love them).  Jeans should fit very snugly when you try them on because they will stretch with wear and no one wants stretched out baggy jeans that you are tugging and pulling on all day!  Find jeans that fit the widest part of you snugly and then you can have them nipped and tucked by a tailor to get them perfect.  Because I'm a runner I tend to have bigger legs (ugh) and a smaller midsection so I usually have to have a tuck taken in the waist of my jeans.  It's an easy, inexpensive alteration that will make all the difference!

Second, length ~ length is just as important as fit.  If your jeans are too long, dragging the ground, you will look shorter and very sloppy.  If your jeans are too short you will look like you are waiting for a flood or that you shrunk them in the dryer.  I recommend to my clients that if they find the perfect jean they should buy two pair and hem one pair to wear with heels and the other to wear with flats.  Nothing ruins a look worse than jeans that are too long or too short ~ promise!

Third, condition ~ the condition of your jeans is vital to determine if they are work appropriate.  I know distressed, ripped jeans are all the rage right now (and I personally love them) but they are NOT for the work place.  If your once perfect jeans have been worn to death and have paint splatters, stains that won't come out and holes from wear they are NOT for the work place.

So what is the perfect work place jean?  A uniform dark wash, bootcut, mid-rise jean that is hemmed to the appropriate length.  When you find them you will be glad you did!

When you are styling your jeans for the workplace stick with more tailored pieces like structured jackets, button-down shirts, fitted sweaters and blouses or cardigan sweaters instead of sloppy sweatshirts or oversize t-shirts.  Save those for the weekends and invest in a few great pieces that will take your look up a notch and make you look more polished and put together.  Because dressing well is a beautiful form of politeness!

Mz Savvy Style Loves Athens ~ Encore ~ The LBD

There are wardrobe staples that every girl needs in her closet ~ dark wash jeans, two button down shirts, ballet flats, nude heels, cardigans, two to three pairs of tailored pants, boyfriend jeans, two skirts, simple t-shirts for layering, classic trench coat, basic accessories, black heeled knee boots, brown riding boots, wellies, jacket or blazer, black pumps and a LBD (little black dress).  As a personal stylist the wardrobe staples are the things that I focus on first when working with a client and then build out the rest of her wardrobe around them.

I'm always on the hunt for the perfect wardrobe staples to recommend to my clients and this LBD or little black dress is one that I'd love to have in my closet!  It's fit and flare styling is flattering on anyone as is the jersey fabric it's made of, the detailing of the cutouts around the neckline and hem ads interest without being overwhelming and...it has pockets, which is always a plus in my book!  When you are looking for a little black dress look for one that can easily be dressed up or down depending on the accessories you pair with it.  In this look I styled the LBD for a night out with a cool statement necklace, a lace-up heel, a graphic clutch and of course, a red lip!

What I'm Wearing ~
(more LBD's here and here)
Statement Necklace: Boho Gal c/o Encore Athens
Graphic Clutch: BCBGeneration c/o Encore Athens
Lace-up Cage Sandals (one of spring's hottest trends): BCBGeneration via T.J.Maxx
(similar herehere and here and this leopard print pair is at the top of my wish list!)

Mz Savvy Style Loves Athens ~ Encore ~ Leather Joggers for Spring

I love joggers especially a great leather (or faux leather) pair (proof here and here) so when I spotted these by Line & Dot on my styling day at Encore I knew they would be the base to one of my outfit choices.  They are buttery soft and not heavy at all so they are perfect for the winter to spring transition period or to wear well on into spring especially when paired with a cute tank like the one I'm wearing.  I really love the drawstring waist detail which adds a little something when you do a front-tuck with your shirt.  Speaking of the front-tuck ~ did you know this makes you appear slimmer and your legs look longer than letting your shirt hang out or tucking it in all the way around?  Try it for yourself and see what you think.

Joggers: Line & Dot via Encore (I'd LOVE this white pair!!)
Tank: French Connection via Encore
Shoes: Anne Michelle (they kind of came home with me!) via Encore
Bag, Necklace & Earrings: Encore exclusive

Have you entered my Encore giveaway yet??  Up for grabs is your choice of the outfit I wore in this post or a $200 Encore gift card!!  Either one you choose is a win!  Enter here:
