Trick or Treat, Boots on My Feet!

Fall is my favorite season and boots are my favorite thing to wear on my feet so it's pretty great that they go together! Give me a crisp fall day and a pair of boots and I'm a happy girl! I have quite a boot collection , from riding boots (a must for every girl), to ankle booties, silver motor cycle boots, classic black knee high boots (another must) and these bad boys. The over the knee style and the super high platform of these carmel beauties just makes me happy (and walk a little taller! ha!)! They are actually pretty comfortable too. I think the platform must balance out the stiletto ;)

I hope you all have a savvy and stylish Halloween! For those of you in the Northeast recovering from Sandy, you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Pinspiration

About a year ago my life was changed forever ~ I discovered the wonderful world of Pinterest! Before Pinterest I had massive "lookbooks", which were binders filled with pages clipped and torn from magazines of outfits, bags, accessories, shoes, hairstyles and such, that I used for my own inspiration and that of my clients. Now I just sit with my iPad and my Pinterest app and pin away on the more than forty boards I've created. Seriously one of the most brilliant ideas ever!

I get a lot of style ideas from Pinterest. I call it "pinspiration". An outfit will catch my eye, I'll pin it (of course), and then break it down. What about this outfit caught my eye? Colors? Texture? It's uniqueness? It's simplicity? And then I make it my own, meaning I take what I like about it and see what I have in my closet to create a version of it myself. Here is one of my pinspiration outfits and the actual pin that inspired it. I would have never thought of the gray/green combo! I think my version turned out pretty good! If you don't follow me on Pinterest you should! It will pinspire you! http://pinterest.com/mzsavvystyle/

Pink

As we all know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink is everywhere, from shopping bags to jewelry, clothing, makeup and beyond. Many companies take part in selling pink products to raise awareness and funds to support the fight against this awful disease. Breast cancer is a personal issue for many of us. Unfortunately we all have someone we love, or many someone's, who have fought or are currently fighting the battle. My mom is still in treatment and this week a childhood friend of mine, Sarah, was diagnosed. Sarah has two daughter's, one of whom is a senior in high school just like mine. This is supposed to be a happy, exciting time not a time full of doctor's appointments and chemo. One of our friends came up with the awesome idea for all of Sarah's girlfriends to post pictures of themselves on her Facebook page wearing pink to show her our love and support. I took my pictures yesterday after church to post on the designated "Pink for Sarah Day", today. I wore the patterned scarf to church and then switched to the pink one for my "Pink for Sarah" picture. It was really amazing this morning to look at Sarah's Facebook page and see all of her friends who love her and are praying for her wearing pink! So this post is dedicated to all of those who have battled or are currently battling breast cancer ~ for me personally they are ~ Grace Kelly, Noreen Kelly Fischer, Sarah Ferraresso, Sue Cullen, Annaliese Delmarter and Amy Bagley Tyner. I pray that some day we find a prevention and a cure!

What to Wear When You Have Hives...

"What to Wear When You Have Hives" is not a very glamorous title for a fashion blog post but this is also real life and in real life you have reactions to medication. And get hives. And still have to carry on with real life. Like the day job, groceries and your daughter's volleyball game... So what do you wear when something like this happens and you just want to be home in sweats but can't? You wear your most comfortable shirt and loose pants, toss on a statement necklace that doesn't touch your skin and bright skimmers and you are good do go. Except for the itching...

This shirt is one of my favorite go-to's and has become my weekend uniform (along with a white one just like it). I usually wear it with skinny jeans or leggins to balance out it's loose fit but for today I wasn't sticking with any fashion rules and just going with comfort. You've seen these bright orange pants before. I'm trying to transition some of my colorful spring/summer clothing into my fall wardrobe and I think by wearing these pants with a darker, heavier top it works. And you can't go wrong with bright yellow skimmers and bubble necklace no matter how you feel!

I hope you all have a savvy and stylish second half of your week!

Windy

It was extremely windy the day I took these pics and I'm not crazy about the wind-swept hair and the squinty face but I love the outfit so I decided to go ahead and share them with you. We all know I have whole heartedly jumped on the colored skinny jeans/pants bandwagon but now I have found a new twist on the trend that I love just as much if not more ~ coated colored skinny jeans! They have a leather like look and are a little dressier than just regular colored denim. I found these at JCPenny on a quick trip thru the store. The oxblood color caught my eye and the coated denim had me hooked! So spot on trend! They are super comfortable too. I think these jeans will look as good with riding boots and a military jacket as they will with heels and a cropped Chanel inspired jacket. Now, what color of coated jeans to go with next...

Military Inspired

I had been looking for a military inspired jacket for a while when I came across this one on clearance at Old Navy. They had the jacket in several colors and I was tempted to buy them all, but decided too much of a good thing is too much, so I went with the traditional army green and a kaki. I figured these two colors were the ones that would be most versatile for this season and the coming seasons. I love the look of a dressed down piece, like an army jacket, paired with dressier pieces like these brightly colored pants and zebra accessories, or over a little dress, or over something with sequins... So many possibilities! Is a military inspired jacket on your fall wish list? If not, it should be. It's a great wardrobe staple that's on trend right now but won't be going out of style anytime soon.

Better Late Than Never ~ September Review

"Better late than never" ~ it's becoming my motto lately. With so much on my plate right now some things fall through the cracks, like sending birthday cards, doing laundry, my September review post... So here it is on the twelfth of October ~ better late than never, I say!

September was definitely a month of transition for my wardrobe. The cool weather was SLOW in getting here so mixing fall clothes with hot weather clothes and lots of layering for cooler mornings and warm afternoons was my m.o. October is here and with it finally came some cooler temps. I'm really hoping they stick around because I'm ready to pack away my summer wardrobe and haul out the fall!

How about you? What's your favorite season? Are you ready for cool weather dressing like I am? Boots, scarves, cardis, tights, sweaters, fur vests, jeans (with out sweating)...aaaahhhh. Fall, I love you! Have a savvy and stylish weekend!!

Zig Zag

I love this top. I love everything about it, from the zig zag pattern to the colors to the slit sleeve detail and the fit. I paired it with basic red skinny jeans and wedges. I'm also looking forward to wearing it with a black leather skirt and boots for fall.
