Summer Staples

Each season there are certain items in my closet that I reach for time and time again.  This spring/summer my deconstructed boyfriend shorts, oversized, lightweight summer sweaters and comfy wedges have been on constant rotation.  Oh, and my Tory Burch straw tote that I have carried to death and my Stella and Dot Gitane Tassel Necklace that I have barely taken off since I bought it.  For some reason this outfit combo makes me feel like Cameron Diaz, only I'm a lot shorter...and older...and not blond...but a girl can dream, right?!

What I'm Wearing ~
Deconstructed Boyfriend Shorts: American Eagle via Platos Closet (I also have this pair from Gap and love them!)
Summer SweaterGap (It's such a great sweater, I have it in four colors.  It will be the perfect summer to fall transition piece too!)
Wedge Cage Sandals: Steve Madden via T.J.Maxx (Similar here and here)
Tote: Tory Burch (I'd love this leather version for fall.)
Tassel NecklaceStella and Dot (It can be worn several different ways, goes with just about everything and comes in silver as well!)
Sunnies: Jessica Simpson via T.J.Maxx
Belt: Gap Factory (Similar)

What are your summer staples?

Go Bold or Go Home

"Go bold or go home" is what I think every time I wear this jumpsuit!  I bought it on a whim from Forever 21 when I was in my "I need 100 jumpsuits and rompers" phase a few months ago.  I love a bold print as much as the next fashionista but wasn't sure how much wear I'd get out of something SO bold.  Well, I've gotten a lot of wear out of it actually!  It's ended up being super easy to dress up (like I did here) with heels, a statement belt and fancy jewelry or dress down with flat sandals and simple accessories.

What I'm Wearing ~
JumpsuitForever 21 (sold out) If you are looking for a really fun, bold jumpsuit this one is for you!
Tassel NecklaceStella and Dot (It's my latest obsession and favorite piece of jewelry right now! You can wear it several different ways and it goes with just about everything!  It comes in silver too.
Bag: Tory Burch (last season) This leather version would be PERFECT for year round use!
Cage Sandals: BCBGeneration via T.J.Maxx (Identical)
SunniesCoach
Pedi PolishOPI Down To The Core-al

Hubs snapped these pictures as I was leaving for a meeting.  The only shade we could find was right next to the house!  And...I'm still using my iPhone for pics.  If someone wants to give me a quick camera lesson I'd love it!

Have you ever bought something on a whim and ended up loving it?

Last Night at the Beach

On the last night of our vacation we decided to go out to the beach in the evening and get some pictures of the kids (the "cousins" as we call them).  We were also got a few pictures of our little family and I was able to get a few impromptu pics for the blog.

Please excuse the squinty eyes!  You would think that late in the day I wouldn't need sunglasses but my eyes are so sensitive to the light!

What I'm Wearing ~
Neon Top: Another fabulous Plato's Closet find!  It's by American Eagle and is no longer available but this tank is a pretty option.
White Tailored Shorts: Loft via Plato's Closet
Neon Necklace: Entourage Athens (Love this one in greens and blues from Stella & Dot)
Pedi Polish: Down To The Core-al by OPI

My sweet, beautiful kids! My son, Chad, youngest daughter, Madison, oldest daughter, Megan and son-in-love, Colton.

The Cousins ~ Riley, Virginia, Carter, Cameron, Madison, Chad and Megan
We have been doing these pictures since the kids could walk (or jump!)

Beach Days

(Since I didn't have wifi last week on our beach vacation I am doing all of my planned beach posts this week...)

I tried something new in the way of swimsuit cover-ups at the beach this year.  Instead of wearing an oversize button-down shirt or a purchased beach cover-up like I usually do I decided to make use of some of my larger scarves by turning them into sarongs.  It's easy to do and it gave me several options to go along with my different swimsuits.  This fun zebra print scarf looked cute with my black top and black and white striped bottoms!

What I'm Wearing ~
Zebra Scarf Worn As A Sarong: Happy Scarf (sold out ~ similar here and I just bought this gorgeous scarf on sale from Stella & Dot)
Swim Suit: Old Navy (top and bottoms)
Flip Flops: Coach
Straw Beach Tote: Plato's Closet (similar)
Sunnies: Coach
Travel Cup: Bubba Keg (similar)

Even with a high SPF sunscreen my face gets too much sun if I don't keep it shaded with a ball cap.  It's not the most stylish thing to wear but I learned a loooooong time ago that tanning your face does nothing but age you and ain't no body got time for that!

This Turkish Towel came in June's Pop Sugar Must Have Box and was perfect to throw in my beach tote.  I'm really into neon for my nails and toes this summer.  Two of my favorites are Down To The Core-al (on my toes) and Juice Bar Hopping (on my nails).

What's your favorite choice for a swimsuit cover-up?

Beach Style ~ Dinner Out

Sorry for the (unplanned) silence last week!!  We were on vacation at St. George Island and we knew going in that we would have no cell service but what we didn't plan for was no wifi!  The wifi was really hit or miss for the first part of the week and then Wednesday, right in the middle of my doing my post for the day, it went out completely!  I ran around like a mad woman trying to get some form of connection but finally decided to just turn it all off and enjoy my family.  For someone who is addicted to Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter and Facebook the week was hard and a blessing at the same time.  It's kind of nice to be "unplugged" to a point and it also made me feel little panicky!

During our week at St. George we go out to eat twice and the other nights each family (meaning the wife/mom) takes a night and cooks.  Tuesday night we went into town (which also meant we had to cross two very long bridges, ugh) to have dinner.  It's always fun, even on vacation, to dress up and go out.  I bought this romper a while back along with a blue one just like it (seen in this post) and I have been saving it for vacation.  The raspberry color would look great with not only white accessories as I chose for this look but also leopard, gold, nude, silver and turquoise.  My question with jumpsuits and rompers is to belt or not to belt?  I chose not to this time but I'm thinking I may try a skinny belt the next time.

What I'm Wearing ~
Jumpsuit: Forever 21
Lace up, Cage Sandals: Nine West (currently on SALE!!)
Necklace: Stella and Dot (no longer available but this one is really gorgeous!)
Sunnies: Emilio Pucci (these from Isaac Mizrahi would be cute with this outfit too!)

My hair is not a fan of the humidity and I decided not to fight it, so here ya go! ha!

For those of you that live in Georgia or can get to Georgia, I'm co-hosting super fun Girls Day Out event with Star 94 Atlanta at the Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta along with my fabulous friends, Cindy Simmons of Star 94 and Jennifer Duvall of JennySue Makeup on Thursday, August 7th from 11:00am-1:00pm!!  You can get all the details HERE!  Hope to see you there!

Life's a Beach

This week we are on our annual Herrin Family Vacation at the beach. We are on an island with no cell service and very limited wi-fi. That's not a bad thing except when one is addicted to Instagram and was planning a week of blog posts!  My iPad and phone are picking up the wi-fi but my computer won't connect so it looks like this week's posts with be a little rough done on an iPad with iPhone pictures!  I'm sorry about that!!  My posts will also be short and sweet this week too because I want to spend as much time as possible with my family and not sitting on my iPad working.

I so love the beach and I look forward to this trip all year long!  One of the things I love about the beach is the laid back relaxed feeling I get the minute I arrive which carries over into my outfit choices.  Denim cutoffs, a roomy summer t/sweater and bare feet are this week's dress code (when I'm not in a bikini)!

What I'm wearing ~
Sweater T: Forever 21
White Denim Cutoffs: American Eagle via Platos Closet (Identical)
Tassel Necklace: Noonday Collection (Similar)
Affirmation Bracelet: BCBGeneration
Sunnies: Jessica Simpson via T.J.Maxx

My girls, my heart!  So thankful they are not just my daughters but my best friends!

Happy Monday!!

Blank Canvas

Last night I attended a "blank canvas" party at the new Kendra Scott store in Buckhead (Georgia) hosted by two fab blogger friends, Lauren of Fashionably Lo and Megan of Lush to Blush.  A "blank canvas" party is where you wear all white so when you try on all the fabulous jewels provided by the hosting shop they pop against your "blank canvas".  I love an all white outfit, especially in the summer, so I was really excited this was the theme of the night!  It was also a great chance to wear the new white and gold ring I just received from 9th & Elm.  I think the only time it's left my finger since it arrived in my mailbox is to sleep, shower and run!

I met two of my blogger besties, Whitney and Blaire of Peaches In A Pod, for dinner before the event. Whitney and Blaire are two Georgia peaches who are best friends, neighbors and blog together making them two "peaches in a pod" ~ so cute, right!?!  They sweetly offered to take blog pictures for me with their REAL camera!  That's right, a real camera, not the usual iPhone photos I always take.  Blaire wanted me to see the difference in how the real camera pictures look to encourage me to break out of my "iPhone only" box and learn how to use my camera.  Well, Blaire was right...the real camera pictures are so much sharper and clearer!  You can actually see the details of my outfit!  Now my goal is to figure out the little point and shoot camera I got for Christmas and maybe once I master that I can invest in a real blogger camera!

What I'm Wearing ~
Sheer Floral Lace Top: Forever 21
Origami Skort: Forever 21
Orange Bag: T.J. Maxx (old) Similar here
Snake Skin Ankle Strap Sandals: Sam Edelman c/o Encore
Tassel Necklace: Forever 21 (sold out) I just ordered this one from Stella & Dot and I can't wait to wear it!!
Ring: Rings Eclectic c/o 9th & Elm

Details

Let's talk about this ring for a minute...it's from a website called 9th & Elm, which sells handmade items from independent designers.  This specific ring is from a shop on the site called "Rings Eclectic" and since I love eclectic, different, statement making pieces this one is me to a T!!  I've already got my eye on one (or two) more like this one and this one.  9th & Elm also has other jewelry, handbags, monogrammed items, phone cases, clothing, kids and baby's stuff, shoes, vintage and otherwise cool stuff!

Okay y'all, what do you think?  Does the picture quality in today's post look a lot better than usual?  I really think it does so it's time for me to drop my iPhone camera dependency and use a real camera!  Now if I can just figure it out!

LBD

LBD in this case means "little blue dress" instead of "little black dress" and when I say "little" I mean short!! Ha!  I ordered this off the shoulder flounce dress from Forever 21 recently to wear on our upcoming beach vacation but it made it's debut a little earlier than I planned!  I always want to wear things the minute I get them.  Do you do that too?  Anyway, on the model online the dress looked short but because I am short and models are tall things are usually much longer on me than they are on the model... but not in this case!  I do love the dress though.  The open shoulder detail is really pretty and the shades of blue in the print are so summer/beach perfect!  (I just need to be aware of wind gusts when I'm wearing it!!  Yikes!)

What I'm Wearing ~
Off The Shoulder Flounce Dress: Forever 21
White Lace-up Cage Sandals: Nine West (They also come in black and sand)
Bucket Bag: (the bag of the season!) Ebay (Identical here)
Cuff: Tory Burch
