MADE in the deep south

I fell in love with MADE in the deep south jewelry two years ago while on vacation in Florida.  I was shopping in one of my favorite shops in Seaside when I came across these unique pieces.  I didn't purchase any that trip but continued to think about them so last year while on vacation I made sure I brought a piece of MADE jewelry home with me (until recently it wasn't sold anywhere in my area).  I bought a leather cuff with a 1940's vintage brooch on it.  It's one of my favorite and most worn pieces in my jewelry box. (You can see it hereherehere, and here just to share a few of the many times I wore the cuff!)

Michela Bruno Swafford is the founder and designer of MADE in the deep south jewelry.  She created this line of jewelry with the idea of making one of a kind jewelry using vintage and antique pieces collected from all over the world.  These pieces are then deconstructed and mixed with other pieces and materials to create new and unique jewelry.  Every piece of MADE jewelry is one of a kind and comes with it's own biography ~ pretty cool!  I love the fact that it's old but new, rugged but elegant.

I was excited (to say the least) when MADE said they wanted to send me a piece from their new line.  I received the most exquisite necklace made from a 1940's chandelier crystal pendant on a 1970's chain mixed with at 1940's necklace.  It changes color depending on what it's against so I can wear it with a multitude of things.  I've layered it over other necklaces and worn it alone like I did in today's post.

Peplum

Sometimes I'm quick to jump on a trend and sometimes I take my sweet time.  The peplum trend has been around for a while now and I am just now figuring out that it's a really flattering trend for me (as it is for every woman)!  It accentuates the positive and hides what needs to be hidden...and what girl doesn't want that?!  Maybe I should invest in a peplum swimsuit this summer! haha!

What I'm Wearing ~
Peplum Top: Gap/Old Navy and I just ordered this cute striped one
Jeans: Hudson via TJMaxx (old, loving these by my favorite, BlankNYC)
Leopard Sandals: Recent purchase from Bloggers Closet ~ these are identical and so fabulous!
Bag: Vintage Gucci Bucket bag via Agora Vintage Shop ~ similar here and I'm loving this one!
Neck Party: On the bottom is the Bauble Bar Courtney Bib and it is one of my favorite purchases! I wear it alone or layered with lots of different necklaces.  It's amazing quality too.  On the top is a necklace I got a while back from TJMaxx.  This one from Kendra Scott is gorgeous!

Easter Dressing and Blogger Closet Buying

Sorry for the silence last week.  I came down with something on Tuesday and blogging just wasn't happening for the rest of the week!  I was finally feeling a bit better yesterday and was able to join my family for Easter Sunday services and lunch at my in-laws.  Problem was because I had been feeling so bad all week I had not planned on what I was going to wear, which is not like me at all, especially for Easter!  Fortunately I had done a little shopping at a bloggers closet sale that a few of my fellow Southern Blog Society bloggers hosted the prior week at the W Hotel Buckhead and had a few new things I could choose from.  If you ever have a chance to shop a bloggers closet sale you should!  I got great, super stylish, barely worn (if worn at all) clothing and shoes and spent less than a quarter of what I would have retail.

What I'm Wearing ~
Top: MM Couture (similar here)
Skirt: Fab'rik (almost identical here and all black version here)
Cage Sandals (Are you tired of seeing these yet? I'm obsessed!): BCBGeneration via TJMaxx (loving these, obsessed with this open back pair and this pair is almost identical to what I'm wearing)
Clutch: Loft (OOOOOLLLLDDD!! but I found a few cute options here and here)

Last Thursday night I hosted a Sip & Shop at my favorite Athens boutique, Encore.  I've been talking about and doing outfit posts from Encore for the past few weeks (if you missed the posts and some really fabulous outfits you can see them herehereherehere and here).  The Sip & Shop was the perfect way to celebrate a very successful collaboration!  We had an amazing sweets and sips table by Lisa Formaro (it was so beautiful it stopped people in their tracks!), giveaways every hour (and some very happy winners!), a 20% discount for all attendees, and personal styling by me!  We had a great turn out with everyone from friends, family, fellow bloggers, blog readers, Athens locals, regular Encore shoppers and people shopping Encore for the first time.  The night was such a success that Nikki (the fabulous owner of Encore) and I are already planning our next event!!  Stay tuned ~ you don't want to miss it!

Beautiful day for the Sip & Shop at Encore in downtown Athens, Georgia!

Mz Savvy Style Loves Athens ~ Encore ~ Seeing Red

I love color ~ green, purple, pink, turquoise, red...  So when I saw this gorgeous shirt in the perfect shade of red while shopping at Encore I knew I had to style it! This faux wrap shirt looks amazing with these full-cut dress shorts but it would also look great with skinny jeans, a skirt or white pants.  The question I ask myself when I want to buy something is, "how many ways can I wear this piece?" If the answer is three or more then I get it, which makes this shirt a definite yes!  Nude heels elongate the leg, which is what you want when you are wearing dress shorts, and are the perfect on-trend summer sandal.  The turquoise jewelry really pops against the rich red of the shirt.  Red and turquoise is such a fun spring/summer color combo, don't you think?

What I'm Wearing ~
Red Faux Wrap Shirt: Line & Dot via Encore (Similar here and here)
Shorts: Line & Dot via Encore (These from Tory Burch are cute, more casual option)
Sandals: Sam Edelman via Encore (Loving this version with thinner ankle straps and these in snake print)
Bag, Necklaces & Bangles: Encore

Mz Savvy Style Loves Athens ~ Encore ~ Palazzo Pants

Palazzo pants made an appearance last spring/summer and they are back even better and brighter this year.  Palazzo pants are fun to wear, you kind of feel like you are wearing your pajamas in public and getting away with it!  I went to an event at Trina Turk a few weeks ago hosted by my blogger friend, Nikka Shae, of Oh Nikka, and palazzo pants and floral shorts were on every rack which made me crave some of my own.  I was really excited when I went to Encore for my styling day and found several pair of palazzo's in the store.  It was hard to choose which to go with but I love the bright boho pattern of these.  Palazzo pants look great with a tight crop-top, and if I was about 10 years younger or really daring I'd try one, but I'm neither so I went with a slightly longer and fuller cut version of a crop-top.  I wasn't sure if something with volume on top would work with something with volume on the bottom until I tired it but the the shorter line of the top ended up balancing out the long, flowey pants well.  I choose two matching leather and suede cuffs worn on each wrist and boho inspired earrings to complete the look.  I'm also wearing VERY high heels but the pants are so long you just can't see them!  If these pants belonged to me I'd have them hemmed so they didn't drag but just skimmed the floor.  Wedges are a great footwear choice to go with palazzo pants.  I was styling and not purchasing the day I wore this outfit but I think it's one I'll go back and get this week at my Sip and Shop Event!  It's just too spring-perfect not to!

What I'm Wearing ~
Palazzo Pants: Flying Tomato via Encore (similar here and here)
Top: A+ Ellen via Encore (similar here)
Cuffs & Earrings: Encore
Bag: BCBGeneration via Encore
