Backpacks ~ The Hottest Trend in Bags

Backpacks are the hottest trend in bags right now.  Last year it was all about the crossbody, they are still in and will never go out, but this season backpacks are everywhere, in every price point and from just about every designer.  I'll have to admit, I was not a fan at first.  Vera Bradley sent me this quilted beauty for Mother's Day and I didn't carry it for at least a month.  I mean, I'm 48, not a college kid and I'm such a traditional bag style girl I just couldn't see myself toting a backpack but... once I gave it a try I was HOOKED!  It's been my go-to bag this summer and I already have this one ready for fall.  What do I love about backpacks?  The ease, the room, and of course, being on trend!  I wish they had been popular when my kids were little because they are the ultimate "busy mom on the go bag"!  So much more stylish than a diaper bag or oversized tote!

Quilted Leather Backpack: Vera Bradley c/o
The rest of this outfit will be on the blog soon but I wanted to share the backpack now because if you are anything like me, the first thing I do when a new season is about to start is get a new bag and I didn't want you to miss out! ;-)

Here are a several more great backpacks at all price points and in different colors and materials.  Happy Fall-Bag-Shopping!!

Styled Three Ways ~ DL1961 Emma Jeans

Hey Everyone!  Me and my blogger bests, Jennifer Duvall and Molly Moon Burton, are back with another addition of our "Styled Three Ways" collaboration.  This time we are each styling a pair of DL1961 Emma Jeans in "drizzle" which is a really cool worn-in gray wash.  I haven't owned a pair of gray jeans in a long time and was super excited when these arrived in my mailbox!  Gray is having a color moment of late and the styling possibilities for these super comfy jeans are endless!

I paired my jeans with a poncho, tunic shirt and booties, all of which of which are hot trends this season.  I'm loving ponchos, aren't you?  I have a few now and they are such a fun completer piece.  I mean, what's better than wearing a stylish blanket all day long?  I'm all about cozy chic fashion!

~ What I'm Wearing ~

Gray Jegging Jeans: DL1961 c/o {These jeans are so comfy they feel like your wearing leggings, not jeans!  I'm planning on getting them in another color or two ASAP!}
Plaid Poncho: Target {The one I'm wearing is already sold out online but may still be in store.  I linked two similar ponchos here and here.}
Henley Tunic Top: Target
Wine Booties: Kenneth Cole REACTION {They come in a few colors}
Necklace: Stella & Dot
Crossbody Bag: Vera Bradley c/o {Completely obsessed with this one!!}

Make sure to check out Jennifer's blog, JennySue Makeup, and Molly's blog, Hey There Sunshine, to get all the details on how they styled their DL1961 Jeans!

Styled Three Ways ~ Vera Bradley "Meredith" Crossbody Bag

My blogger bests, Jennifer Duvall of JennySue Makeup and Molly Moon Burton of Hey There Sunshine, and I decided to start a blog series called "Styled Three Ways" where each of us style the same item our own way and share all three looks with our readers.  It should be a lot of fun because we are each in a different age group (yes, I'm oldest!) and we each have our own unique style, plus it gives us a reason to meet for dinner a few times a month!  First up in our series is a cute tango red crossbody bag from our favorite bag brand Vera Bradley.  I love a good crossbody bag ~ especially when it's made of the softest leather around, has plenty of room for all of my necessities and is the perfect Georgia red!!

For today's look I went with a gray, white and black plaid flannel shirt dress, a black faux leather vest and black leather (barely) over the knee boots to make my bright red bag (and lip) really stand out.  A shirt dress is always flattering and versatile.  The tie waist lets you control the cinch and the shirttail hem gives it a casual vibe.  It's great for the office or for game-day.  The one I'm wearing is a recent TJMaxx purchase but I found a identical one for you here.  I wanted to add something to my outfit to give it a little edge and this black faux leather vest did just that.  Over the knee boots are a big trend again this season.  Make sure when you pair yours with a skirt or dress to show a little leg between the hem and the boots to balance out your look.  My necklacesbracelets and earrings are all Stella & Dot.

Now head over to Jennifer's Blog and Molly's Blog to see how my beautiful blogger besties styled their Vera Bradley Meredith Crossbody Bags!  And check out this recent post from my blog featuring another of my favorite Vera Bradley bags!

Tie-Dye Tunic

Tie-dye is everywhere right now and I'm glad because I'm really loving it!  It's kind of boho/hippy and trendy at the same time.  I scooped up this cute tie-dye tunic on a recent stop at Entourage.  The wear-with-everything black and white pattern and the fun high/low hem sold me!  It's great for summer with shorts and a kimono (or alone) but will transition well into fall with black skinnies and an open-front cardigan.

Inexpensive Style with Forever 21

OK ~ I'm not 21.  I'm actually the mother of a 21 year old (and a 20 year old and a 24 year old) but I still shop at Forever 21, especially Forever21.com.  It's my go-to for fun, trendy pieces like leather leggings and joggers, all things faux fur, jumpsuits and casual sweaters.  Right now Forever 21 is having a great sale that I stumbled on today while doing a little lunchtime online browsing and I wanted to share it with you all.  Ready?  For every sale item you buy you get one free!  That means on top of already great sale prices you get two items for the price of one!  I created a few outfits using some of the pieces from the sale to give you some ideas ~ a day outfit and a night outfit...

Leather Joggers are one of my favorite trends this season!  They are so easy to dress up or down.  My favorite way to wear them is paired with a slightly slouchy crew neck sweater, fuzzy faux fur vestpointy toe flats (the pointy toe helps elongate the leg) and a bold layered statement necklace.  And you can never go wrong with a quilted crossbody bag.  (The joggers, sweater and vest are part of the buy one get one sale.)

Another trend I am all about is a great jumpsuit.  I'd been know to replace my lbd with a lbj a lot in the past year.  I even wore one to Star 94's "Little Black Dress Party".   Paired with a great pair of heeled peep-toe booties, a sassy leopard clutcha fun fringed bib necklace (it compliments the lower neckline) and a fabulous faux fur jacket it's makes the perfect date-night/night-out outfit.  (The jumpsuit and jacket are both on the buy one get one sale.)

Forever 21 pieces are not forever-in-your-wardrobe pieces but they are a really fun way to embrace current trends and try something you wouldn't normally try!

Gladiators

I realized the other day that even though I've worn these knee-high gladiator sandals a bunch this season I haven't posted them as of yet on the blog.  It will be boot season before long (Yay!! My favorite!) so I decided I better get on the ball!  Gladiators have been super hot trend this spring/summer.  And it's a trend that's fun to wear because they add a little edge to any outfit, even something simple like a tank, cutoffs and a scarf-turned-into-a-vest like I'm wearing here!

Knee-High Gladiator Sandals: DSW - they also come in tan.  Both are on a great end-of-season sale!
Black Tank: Old Navy
White Denim Cutoffs: American Eagle via Plato's Closet - Similar here from Old Navy  (and on a crazy good sale!)
Bucket Bag: Isaac Mizrahi New York (I'm obsessed!)
Vest: It's actually a scarf I tied into a vest (see my post here on how-to). Similar scarf here.
Sunnies: Coach

What do you think about the gladiator trend?

Another Day, Another Jumpsuit

This is my third post in the last month featuring a jumpsuit and it won't be the last (you can see the first two posts here and here).  One piece dressing is just so easy and chic it's quickly becoming my go-to.  The hardest part is deciding on what accessories to wear!  Speaking of accessories, white accessories are a big trend this season and I'm really embracing them!  Nothing says "summer" like white!

What I'm Wearing ~
Jumpsuit: Forever 21 (sold out ~ similar here, love this one by Line & Dot, I bought this one for my daughter and I just ordered this one)
Necklace: JCPenny (old ~ similar)
Cage Sandals: Nine West
Sunnies: Pucci c/o Alexis Suitcase (in blue here and almost identical here)
White Bucket Bag: eBay (love this one)
Cuff: Tory Burch

My jumpsuit needs hemmed.  Even with 5" heels it is too long! #shortgirlproblems

Love the back detail!

Jumpsuits and Red Suede Shoes

As I mentioned before, two of my favorite trends this season are cage sandals and jumpsuits/rompers.  I can't get enough of either one.  Fortunately there are so many cute, affordable options out there that I can indulge in my newest obsession without guilt (and look on-trend doing it!).

Saturday I went to a bridal shower for one of my daughter's best friends and decided to wear this jumpsuit.  The best thing about jumpsuits is the one-piece dressing!  Pull it on, toss on a few accessories and a pair of shoes and you can head out the door.  My daughter had the same idea and wore a cute little black romper I gave her for her birthday a few weeks ago.  By the end of the summer people will be saying, "there go those Herrin girls in their jumpsuits again".  And I'm OK with that!

What I'm Wearing~
Jumpsuit: Forever 21 (It comes in two gorgeous colors...and I have them both!  Sorry I didn't think to get pictures of the back ~ it has a gathered t-back ~ super cute (and you can still wear a bra!)
Red Cage Sandals: Michael Antonio (these too come in several colors)
Turquoise Necklaces: Old, I'm craving this one by Kendra Scott
Bag: Michael Kors (last year's, this one is the current season)
Sorry my hair looks like who'd a thunk it (that was one of my very southern friend, Mandy's favorite sayings!).  I was running super late for the shower after my Saturday long run and pulled my it-takes-an-hour-to-dry wet hair into a knot and it dried kind of funky!)

What Megan's Wearing~
Romper: Forever 21 (this style is sold out in all black but they have it in black with white polka dots and this gorgeous romper comes in black or hot pink)
Wedges: Jessica Simpson (old, but here's a similar option)
Green Bubble Earrings: Entourage (loving these from Kendra Scott)

(I look like I'm waiting for my bag to move or something! haha! Blogger pose problems!)

What do you think of the romper/jumpsuit trend comeback?  If you are unsure I say, "try it, you'll like it!!"
