Snow Day ~ Take Two

As I told you yesterday, in true fashion blogger style I decided to take advantage of the rare Georgia snow fall and use it as a backdrop for a few blog outfits.  To me there is nothing prettier than snow!  Faux fur, wellie boots, a favorite cozy sweater, warm tights, a hat, gloves and pops of pink make up snow-day outfit number two!

A Snow Day and A Legacy Bag

Sorry that it's Wednesday and I'm just now doing my first post of the week!  What a crazy few days it's been here!  On Sunday I went to my sister-in-law's to help her pack up her house for her and her family's move to California.  I spent the night with her so we could finish packing on Monday.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous ~ so much so that we had the doors open so we could enjoy the beautiful day while we were busy packing.  We finished up Monday afternoon and after saying our goodbye's and shedding a few tears I headed home.  By Tuesday morning the temperature was dropping and the clouds were rolling in.  If you watch the news you know what happened here in Georgia come mid morning on Tuesday ~ snow, ice and panic hit.  I know for those in the North it's hard to understand how 2-3 inches of snow can completely shut a state down and leave people stranded for hours upon hours.  We only get snow here every few years so there is not the equipment or manpower needed to clear roads.  People don't stock their cars with blankets and food, don't have chains or snow tires and most don't even wear boots, gloves and coats!  Fortunately my kid's schools were cancelled early and all of our jobs closed and sent everyone home before it got bad out.  We were cozy at home enjoying the beautiful snow but many people were not so lucky.  My brother-in-law is still stuck at the airport after flying in from California yesterday afternoon, one of my brother's was stranded at work until he was finally able to get home a few hours ago and my other brother's wife, who works at a hospital, worked a 24 hour shift and after a quick rest has to do it again.  I'm praying everyone is able to get home safely to their family's soon!

Being the fashion blogger I am I couldn't let a beautiful snow day go by without using it as a backdrop for blog pictures!  This is the first of three outfits I pulled for my "snow day" pictures.  A cozy cape layered over a striped cowl-neck, with leather leggings, Hunter wellies and of course a hat and gloves!  And I can't forget my new Coach Legacy bag!  I've been on the hunt for over a year now for the perfect red cross-body bag.  I knew I wanted a vintage Coach ~ either a Willis bag or Legacy bag ~ but was having a hard time finding one.  I frequent a shop here in Athens,  Agora Vintage and mentioned to the owner, Airee, what I was looking for and...she found it!  A mint condition, vintage, red Coach Legacy bag!  And because I'm working on a collaboration with her (more on that later) she gave me an amazing deal (under $70)! Woo hoo!

I hope you all are safe and warm!!

Meilleur de la Semaine ~ Deux

As I mentioned in last Friday's post (if you didn't get a chance to read it you can see it here) one of the new things I'm doing on my blog in 2014 is something I'm calling "Meilleur de la Semaine" which means "Best of the Week".  This is where I highlight my favorite post of the week and a few of my favorite things ~ clothes, makeup, products, books, etc. ~ that I want to share with you.  So here's Meilleur de la Semaine ~ Deux (Best of the Week ~ Two).

My favorite post from this week is This Dress which featured a green Versona Accessories party dress and leopard wedges.  The color combo is my favorite and the dress is the absolute perfect party dress!  My post was also featured on the Versona Accessories Facebook page which you can see here!

You can see the full post here and if you missed this week's other posts you can see them here and here.

The three things I'm loving this week are a nail polish and two new additions to my wardrobe:

Last weekend I went to get a manicure with my daughter.  I don't get manicures very often anymore since I joined Julep and do my own mani's a home, but the winter weather has taken it's toll on my cuticles and I thought a professional manicure was just what I needed.  At the salon I picked OPI's "Cable Car-Pool Lane", a raspberry/oxblood color for my nail color.  It's seriously the prettiest color!  I'm currently on the hunt for a sweater, dress, pants or skirt in this gorgeous hue!

OPI's In the Cable Car-Pool Lane

If you have read my blog for long or follow me on Instagram you know that I'm totally obsessed with all things leather and faux leather.  I've also recently tried out trendy track pants and loved them so I was really excited when I came across these faux leather joggers from Forever 21.  The quality is top notch, the fit is great (true to size), the styling options are limitless, plus they are super comfy!  And the price?  Crazy good!  They are a win, win, win, win, win!

I love pattern mixing and I'm a fan of stripes so I've been searching for a pair of striped pumps to wear with the florals, plaids and other prints in my closet.  Striped pumps will also give an outfit of neutrals a little kick (pun intended).  My search ended with these Forever 21 Standout Striped Pumps.  You will be seeing a lot of  both of these new additions!

What were your favorite things this week?  Thank you for reading!  Have a happy weekend!

Aztec and Plaid

I got this sweater from my mother-in-law for Christmas.  I love the Aztec pattern and colors (I don't own anything else like it) and I immediately started thinking of ways to style it.  My first thought was to wear it with skinny jeans and a white shirt ~ kind of basic, safe and a little boring.  Then I remembered I had this plaid flannel shirt from Old Navy.  Since I'm a huge fan of pattern-mixing and the blue in the shirt is the exact blue as the blue in the sweater I knew they were a match made in pattern-mixing heaven.  To balance out the size of the sweater and shirt I then decided to wear navy, denimish leggings and riding boots.  And to top it all off ~ red lips, of course!

Did you know you can shop my looks right from my blog?  When creating my post I try to find similar if not the same items that I'm wearing and post the links in the bottom of the page below the pictures so if you love a particular item I'm wearing, or want to create the whole look yourself, it's as easy as a click!  I'm your own personal shopper and wardrobe stylist!

This Dress

You know when you see something and you fall instantly in love with it and you can't stop thinking about it until it's yours?  That's exactly what happened with this dress.  I saw it at the grand opening of Versona Accessories Athens back in early November but I couldn't think of what I had coming up that I'd need a party dress for so I didn't get it.  But I kept thinking about it.  And thinking about it.  You see, there are a few things that I LOVE above all other things when it comes to fashion and emerald green is one of them.  Once the Christmas rush was over I realized I did indeed have something to wear this beautiful green party dress to ~ my daughter's best friend's wedding ~ so I rushed over to Versona not expecting the dress to still be there.  But it was and they still had my size!  I think it was meant to be, don't you?

My all time favorite combo in fashion is emerald and leopard.  I love how they play off of each other and make the other one pop!  I was wishing I had a good pair of leopard pumps to go with this dress but I don't, I have a few pair of wedges, skimmers and ballet flats, but no pumps so I went with the next dressy option ~ wedges. (I know, it's hard to believe this leopard obsessed girl does not own leopard pumps!  I'm working on remedying that!)  I tried several bags but ended up with this little leopard clutch that complements the shoes.  I picked up this necklace at Versona at the same time as the dress.  I knew the tortoise shell would complement the leopard.  It all came together just the way I'd hoped.  I was a happy emerald green/leopard wearing girl!

(Please excuse the quality and lighting of these pictures!  I was trying to discretely take blog pics without attracting attention to myself and the lighting was not good in any of the areas we tried.)

And while we are on the subject of emerald and leopard I just had to share this coat with you that I found today at a vintage shop here in Athens.  Isn't it perfection?  If it had been in my budget it would be mine!

Weekend Wear

Most of us have certain things we reach for when getting dressed on the weekend ~ our "weekend uniform" per say.  The weekend uniform usually involves comfort and is for the most part different from what we'd wear to work.  I know my weekend uniform varies slightly depending on the activity ~ leggings and a oversize cardi for hanging out at home, leggings and a tunic sweater for grocery shopping and boyfriend jeans and a cozy sweater for just about everything else from lunch out to watching kid's sporting events or hitting the mall.

As I've said before in my blog, being comfortable doesn't mean being sloppy or boring.  Simple "tweaks" like layering a long sleeve t-shirt under your sweater, "front tucking" your sweater, wearing a statement belt, a colorful shoe or a statement necklace will give an outfit personality and add interest.  It took me no longer to put this outfit on than it would have if I'd worn sweats.  The key is having a few easy, mix and match pieces that you can grab and wear with little thought or effort.

So what's your weekend uniform?

Meilleur de la Semaine ~ Un (Best of the Week ~ One)

Happy Friday, everyone!  I'm trying to change things up and set some goals for the blog this year.  A few things you will be seeing are:

1.  Posts ~ I'm aiming for a minimum of three outfit posts a week.  (I'm going for quality not quantity.)
2.  Links to find/shop the things (or similar things) I'm wearing in my posts.  The whole reason I started my blog was to share my outfit ideas with women so that they could copy my outfits or use my outfits as inspiration.  And as a personal shopper I want to make it easy for you to do that!  By including links for what I'm wearing (or for similar items if it's no longer available) you can shop my looks directly from my blog with just a click!
3.  Better quality pictures ~ I'm working on this and it may take me a while!  Currently, and since the beginning of my blog, all of my pictures are taken with an iPhone camera.  And I never edit them or use filters.  Why?  Because I didn't have a "real" camera and I don't get the whole editing thing (so what you see is what you get!)  But I got a camera for Christmas, along with a MacBook Pro, so as soon as I figure it all out my pictures will improve!
4.  Meilleur de la Samaine ~ which means "Best of the Week" in French.  Once I week I want to highlight my favorite post (or two) and my favorite things (products, shows, clothing items, accessories, foods...) from the past week.  I'm aiming to do this on Friday or Saturday depending on my schedule.  Today is my first "Meilleur de la Samaine"!
5.  Answering your fashion/style questions ~ this one I need you all for!  As a personal shopper and wardrobe stylist I get a lot of questions about the how, when, where, why of dressing and style and I'd love to help you, my readers, if you have a fashion dilemma!  Email me your questions at savvystyle30605@yahoo.com and I will answer them here on the blog!

Now for Meilleur de la Semaine Un ~

It's hard for me to choose my favorite post this week because I was so happy with them all (for once) but to pick one I'll have to go with Tuesday's post "It All Started With The Scarf".  The bold colors and the way the outfit came together made me happy!

You can see the full post here and if you missed this week's other two posts you can see them here and here.

Three things I'm loving right now and I want to share with you are all products for the face ~

The Juelp Bare Face Cleansing Oil has changed my skin.  Totally transformed it.  And I would have never tried it if it hadn't come in one of my monthly Juelp boxes about five months ago.  I'd always used straight up cleansers ~ the foaming, soapy kind.  To use oil to cleanse my skin was totally strange to me but after about a week of using it every night I was hooked and so was my skin!  It's so smooth and soft and I'd like to think those little lines have softened some too!  Sometimes seeing IS believing!

Julep Beauty Bare Face Cleansing Oil

Unless you have been living under a rock then you have heard of Urban Decay's Naked Eyeshadow Pallets.  They have four: Naked, Naked2, Naked Basics and the just-out-this-past-November, Naked3.  I didn't get why everyone was raving over this eyeshadow until I received the Naked2 pallet for Christmas.  Let me tell you, all the raving is for good reason!  I've never in my life used such great eyeshadow.  Every color is a beautiful, wearable neutral, the color lasts all day long and the brush it comes with is the best eyeshadow brush I've ever used.  I'm a serious Naked fan now.  I'm thinking about trying out this Naked Flushed blush as soon as my current one runs out.

                                          Urban Decay Naked2 eyeshadow pallet

I've fallen in love with red lipstick!  If you'd asked me less than six months ago if in the near future I'd be wearing red lipstick almost every day I would have answered with a big "no"!  I was and had been a neutral lipstick girl forever.  But I started to see more and more red lips on bloggers and in magazines and then I was in a fashion show with my friend, makeup artist and fellow Athens blogger and brunet Jennifer of JennySue Makeup  and she was ROCKING a red lip.  When I told her I couldn't bring myself to get out of my neutral lip box she really encouraged me to give red a try.  It took me a while to find the right red, one that went on easily, stayed on and was the right shade, but when I found this one by L'Oreal I fell in love and now a neutral lip seems boring!

What have you tried recently that you are loving?  Any new products that have taken you by surprise?

Copper, Oxblood and Ivory

When I ordered this oxblood sweater a few weeks ago I had plans to wear it with basic skinny jeans or leather leggings but when getting dressed yesterday morning I remembered I had these ivory (winter white, cream) moto jeans and thought I'd try them with the sweater.  I love the contrast of the richness of the sweater with the creaminess of the jeans and the pop of leopard in the shoes.  I'd been looking for the right outfit to wear this copper necklace with since I got it from my brother (who made it custom for me - he's an incredible artist) for Christmas and I do think this outfit was the perfect one.  I layered the large copper necklace with a shorter one made of different pieces of treated copper.  Layering jewelry, whether it be rings, bracelets or necklaces, is one of my favorite trends.  It definitely makes a statement!
