All The Things...

Call this November Must Haves, my birthday wish list (hint, hint) or an early holiday shopping guide, all I know is... I want all the things!

1.  Kendra Scott Choker Necklace ~ A trend I'm glad has made a comeback & I hope is here to stay!

2.  Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics ~ Naked pallets 1, 2 and 3 are the bomb so I can only imagine how great their ultimate pallet is!

3.  Spanx Faux Leather Leggings in Wine and Spanx Seamless Camouflage Leggings ~ I own two pairs of Spanx leggings already, Moto Leggings and Faux Leather Leggings in Black, and they are on constant repeat so I figured the wine and camo would be great additions to my fall/winter wardrobe.

4.  NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream Vault ~ The ultimate gift set for a NYX lippie lover like me!

5.  Kendra Scott Naomi Double Ring ~ I've not tried the double ring trend but this one makes me want to!

6.  Camo Ball Cap ~ I love camo, I love leather and this ball cap is perfect for days when dry shampoo has done all it can do for the week!

7.  Olive Green Lace-up Sweater ~ The color, tunic style and lace-up detail are perfection!

8.  Vera Bradley Sagebrush Satchel in Canyon Sunset ~ You knew I couldn't have a wish list without a Vera Bradley bag on it!  I'm loving the gorgeous orange-red color of this tote and the leather is as soft as butter!

9.  Velvet Blazer in Wine ~ Perfect for the upcoming holidays and for any day you want to feel fabulous!

10. Adidas Superstar Sneaker ~ The current "IT" shoe (there is one every season).  They will look so cute with all of my Spanx leggings! ;-)

It's Good To Be A Girl!

I have to admit, I'm super excited about this post and have been since I came up with the idea a few months ago!  I've been looking for the opportunity to include my girls on my blog ~ they are both beautiful, each have a great sense of style and are really good writers (unlike their momma!).  Vera Bradley's new "It's Good To Be A Girl" campaign seemed like the perfect time to feature them because we Herrin girls sure do love most everything about being a girl!!

My girls and I spent last Saturday morning together doing some of our favorite things ~ coffee, shopping, talking, laughing, lunching and chatting about why each of us think it's good to be a girl!

Madison Christina is my baby girl, the youngest of my three kids.  She's 21 (almost 22!) and is a senior in college majoring in PR/Communications. To know Madie is to love Madie.  She lights up a room and always has a smile on her sweet face.  Oh, and she wants to marry Tim Tebow, so if anyone has any connections please help a girl out! ;-)

Why It's Good To Be A Girl in Madison's words...

Being a girl means I get to have fun filled days like last Saturday -- dressing up in new clothes, carrying a new purse, fixing my hair, trying something different with my makeup, and walking around my favorite town with my two best friends. When I think about what it means to be a girl and why I love it so much, I can't help but think about my favorite Audrey Hepburn quote. “I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls." She was a girls girl and I love it. I love getting to completely 'girl out' with my sister and mom for the day. I love getting all dressed up and going out. I love getting my hair done on the reg. I love getting my nails done-what a difference a mani/pedi can make! And I love being girly and planning my entire 22nd birthday around the theme, PINK. There is so much to being a girl-- so much flexibility and variety (big t-shirt, no makeup, baseball cap kind of days... those happen more often than id like to admit #college), but for me, getting dolled up is definitely my favorite and probably the #1 reason I love being a girl.

 Megan Grace is my oldest, my "apple", my shining star.  She's been married to Colton, her high school sweetheart, for a little over 3 1/2 years.  She's also the strongest, most determined person I know.  She may be little but she is fierce!

Why It's Good To Be A Girl in Megan's words...

It’s good to be a girl because, “Playing dress up begins at age 5 and never truly ends.” Kate Spade said this and I believe this to be true. I feel like my style changes depending on my mood. I’m not just referring to my clothes when I say ‘style,’ but my makeup as well. I view clothes and makeup as a fun and creative way to express myself. Boys don’t necessarily have that option to change up their clothing and makeup depending on how they are feeling that day! I feel like my style is constantly changing and I do consider it dress most of the time! Some days I feel like I am embracing my inner Hippie and everything from my hair, to my makeup, to my clothes embraces the boho style. I do the same thing with girlie girl style or casual chic. This purse from Vera Bradley and the clothes I chose from Entourage (pictured below) are very versatile. I can use this purse as a pop of color with any outfit that I choose for the day and the Entourage clothing can be mixed and matched to fit the way I am feeling any day of the week!

Why I think It's Good To Be A Girl...

There are SO many reasons why I think it's good to be a girl!  From big things like having really awesome, supportive girl friends, some who have been in my life for.ev.er and some who have only been in my life for a few years, to little things like Gilmore Girls marathons with my girls (November 25th can't get here fast enough!) and being able to wear leopard print every.single.day if I feel like it!  But for me the number one reason it's good to be a girl is the privilege and blessing of being a mom.  There is nothing that compares.  No job that's greater.  Nothing that makes me happier.  My kids, the three I gave birth to and the one that became mine when he married my daughter, are my joy, my heart and why I think It's REALLY Good To Be A Girl!!

Leopard, Backpacks and Pink Drinks

Leopard, backpacks and pink drinks ~ these are a few of my favorite things!  Seriously, if you asked someone to describe me they would probably say, "A little dark haired, green eyed woman, wearing leopard print, carrying a backpack and drinking a pink drink"!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, leopard is a trend that never goes out of style.  You can wear it season after season, year after year, especially in a classic A-line style like this sleeveless sweater dress.  It's purfect for this time of the year.  It can be worn with a cardigan or jacket if it's cold out but looks great alone when the temps warm up in the afternoons.  Suede knee-high boots, ankle booties and lace up flats all look great with this easy-to-wear dress.  Oh, and it has pockets!!  Doesn't get much better than that!

September Transition

I'm in fall transition mode, y'all, but the weather is stuck in summer!  It's been over 90 degrees for almost 90 days here in Georgia.  I want so badly to wear leather leggings, boots, cozy sweaters and blanket scarves but unless I want to have heatstroke I'm sticking to lighter layers in darker colors and fall-ish patterns.  Fall booties have replaced my summer sandals for the most part but I decided to take these peep-toe lace-ups out one more time before I pack them up for the fall/winter season.  I also can't seem to part completely with my white quilted leather backpack.  I've put it away with my other summer bags a few times now but I keep getting it back out.  I've been carrying my white backpack as much as my brown one and my black one these past few weeks.  Backpacks have definitely become my go-to bag and you can read all about why I love them here.

Breaking the Rules

Sometimes rules are made to be broken, especially fashion rules.  Honestly, fashion rules are the most fun to break because that's one of the best ways to show your individual style (hello pattern mixing and leopard and camo as neutrals!).  I've not honored the "don't wear white after Labor Day" rule in quite some time. Would I wear a white linen sundress, a pair of super strappy white sandals or carry a white straw bag after Labor Day?  Probably not.  Would I wear white jeans, a white sweater or white tennis shoes? Yep! Absolutely! I actually have this pair of white jeans, this lace-up sweater and these kicks as part of my fall shopping list.  The espadrilles I'm wearing in today's post have become go-to's and I'm not ready to retire them for the fall yet and the tank is a great basic that works well alone or layered under a kimono, like I did here, or under a vest, cardigan or denim jacket as the temps drop.

Backpacks ~ The Hottest Trend in Bags

Backpacks are the hottest trend in bags right now.  Last year it was all about the crossbody, they are still in and will never go out, but this season backpacks are everywhere, in every price point and from just about every designer.  I'll have to admit, I was not a fan at first.  Vera Bradley sent me this quilted beauty for Mother's Day and I didn't carry it for at least a month.  I mean, I'm 48, not a college kid and I'm such a traditional bag style girl I just couldn't see myself toting a backpack but... once I gave it a try I was HOOKED!  It's been my go-to bag this summer and I already have this one ready for fall.  What do I love about backpacks?  The ease, the room, and of course, being on trend!  I wish they had been popular when my kids were little because they are the ultimate "busy mom on the go bag"!  So much more stylish than a diaper bag or oversized tote!

Holiday Party Ready
